About C.E. Grundler

C.E. Grundler is a self-taught fine artist specializing in marine, automotive, and aviation, as well as the occasional two or four-footed subject, combining elements of draftsmanship with loose, expressive, spontaneous brushstrokes to create evocative scenes that transcend realism.

From the time she could hold a pencil, Grundler exhibited a natural talent for sketching with remarkable precision and realism. Growing up aboard and around boats along the New England shores, she was more interested in fishing and sailing than the art scene, and content with endlessly sketching subjects found throughout old boatyards and forgotten places. After years of messing about in boats and working as dockmaster in a large marina, Grundler decided to switch gears and focus on her art. Classic and vintage boats, trucks, trains, and planes are frequent subjects, and Grundler’s works stand out for their beauty, understanding of the subject, and attention to detail.

“Simply duplicating a scene isn’t enough for me. Beyond capturing the nuances in light reflecting off a hull or the water, and the interplay of colors and shadows, my goal is to unearth the narrative of my subject’s history and convey the atmosphere of its presence. My art must tell its own story.”

Her works can be found in private, public, and corporate collections, including Cape Cod Maritime Museum, The Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation, R. Arsi Trucking, and Eastern Ice. Today, the artist lives in Yarmouth, Cape Cod, surrounded by endless inspiration.
